Make Mine a Bad Boy by Katie Lane Book Review

June 22, 2011 4 Comments

They all said that Hope Marie Scroggs, the town's sweetheart, always gets what she wanted but ever since she left her small town Bramble, nothing in her life went right. She left town to be famous and be a star but it didn't happen the way she wanted it. She decided to go home and marry her high school sweetheart, the town's hero, Slate but she found him head over heels in love with her twin sister.

She thought that was the worst thing that could happen to her but she was dead wrong! The worst came when her childhood nemesis, her best friend’s older brother, the town's bad boy, Colt Lomax came home.

Colt Lomax didn't even know why he suddenly went back to his hated little town, Bramble. He was supposed to deliver a motorcycle to Austin but he found himself in the old town. He stumbled to Faith and Slate’s wedding and kissed the bride whom at that time he thought was Hope. And what he got was bruises from the groom and the bride’s twin Hope.
Hope just wants Colt out of her town but fate has something else in stored for them. Something so unexpected that will boggle their minds out.

This contemporary romance is a real nice read for me. Katie Lane is one author a reader wouldn’t want to miss! She wrote the characters in a way that makes me feel that they’re real because they weren’t the perfect types, they have flaws. She wrote a story that could make a reader die out of curiosity. While reading the first part, a reader will be curious as to what did the main characters go through together. What connected them? And what happened between them in the past. Katie Lane gave the readers a glimpse on what it’s like living in a small town where everybody knows everybody.

‘Make Mine a Bad Boy’ is light and fun to read! It would leave a little smile on your face when you finished it.

Fifty Shades of Grey-E.L. James BLOG TOUR Book Giveaway

June 21, 2011 38 Comments

Well, all I can say is the readers of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ will not be disappointed at all. This is the first of three. E.L James is a new author with a lot of potential.

The ever innocent Anastasia never imagined she’d fall for the very rich and very mysterious Christian Grey. Ana, who never had any relationship nor had ever been in love with a man before caught the interest of the gorgeous and insanely rich Christian Grey. But can Ana accept and give the very different and very dark needs Christian has?

This fiction is insanely hot! While reading this, you’ll just feel yourself rapidly melting. What I liked most about this one is that even though it’s an adult themed fiction, the author did not sacrifice the depth of the story. It sustained the plot. Some erotica have the tendency to focus on the intimate scenes and forget the plot but I’m glad that the author made it possible for her book to have the hot scenes with real emotions. E.L James succeeded in balancing the essential components of an erotica quite well.  She gave the characters the life and soul it had to make the readers endear with them.

I think a reader would be a really hard stone not to feel anything while reading this!

How to Seduce a Scoundrel-Vicki Dreiling Book Review

June 20, 2011 2 Comments

By:                          Vicki Dreiling

Publication Date:        07/01/2011
Publisher Name:
Grand Central Publishing
Imprint:
Forever

Marc Darcett, Earl of Hawkfield or mostly known as Hawk is a scoundrel through and through, but he values his friendship with Tristan Garwick, Duke of Shelbourne and that’s why he agreed to take Tristan’s younger sister, Julianne as his ward for the rest of the season while Tristan is with his very pregnant wife in the country. He thought it would be easy! Hawk did not expect to find Julianne a grown woman. Even as a scoundrel, he still has rules, avoid virgins at all cost and to never dally with a friend’s sister and his growing feelings for Julianne is making everything complicated.

Julianne started the season with stars in her eyes. She has always been in love with Hawk. She rejected 12 proposals in the past seasons because she’s been waiting for Hawk. She really believed that Hawk has feeling for her.
Because of one waltz, motions were stirred. Hawk danced with her as if she’s the only woman for him. She thought he’s going to propose right then and there but she was so wrong! Right there he said that she’s like a sister to him. Those words shamed her, hurt and broke her heart to pieces. It took the stars from her eyes.

Feeling like a fool, spurned and rejected, she, with the help of Hawk’s eccentric and bold aunt, wrote a pamphlet on how to seduce a scoundrel for ladies who endlessly wait for scoundrels and rakes to tire of bachelorhood and offer for them.

This is the first Vicki Dreiling I’ve read and I can say that she’s one talented writer who knows how to stir the emotions of the readers. Her characters are fun to read because they seem real. There were times that I loved them and there were times that they frustrated me. I like the pacing of the book because you could see the growths of the main characters were not rushed unlike in other stories that the characters suddenly magically changed. I recommend this Historical Romance to those readers who love their scoundrels fun, witty and steamy!

Ascension (Guardians of Acension 1) by Caris Roane Book Review

June 16, 2011 2 Comments

Well, this is the first Caris Roane I’ve read. I liked it. As I’ve always said, the first book of a starting boo series is the most critical one because the author needs to entice the readers to read the next one.

In this paranormal romance, Earth is divided to the Mortal Earth and the Second Earth. The Mortal Earth is the place where the normal humans live. They have no idea that there is a different dimension called the Second Earth.

The Second Earth is the second dimension where the vampires live. Third and Fourth Earth was also mentioned in the book but nobody knows what is in there because no one has ascended into it yet.

Alison, the heroine in the story, is a therapist who has powerful abilities that made her different. She has always felt different and an outsider from her family because she’s not normal. She envies her sister who can have a normal life and a normal family. The last man she let in her life ended up in the hospital because she’s too powerful for him.

Kerric is one of the vampire warriors who kills the ‘death vampires’, the kind of vampires who drains human blood that would eventually kill the humans. Kerric’s family was killed because he’s a warrior thus, making him vow to himself that he’ll never take a wife as long as he’s a warrior. He doesn’t want to experience the pain and guilt of losing his family again.

The chemistry of the hero and heroine is great. The pacing of the story was slow at first but the climax was done nicely that you’d really feel it. Even the character are likable, but I have one issue on this fiction, I see glimpses of JR Wards’s Black Dagger Brotherhood so I cannot say it the most unique nor the most original I’ve ever read but it’s a nice read.

Overall, it’s a nice read! I recommend this fiction to those who love their bloodsuckers! And I’m looking forward to reading more from nice writer like Caris Roane!

Breaking Dawn Part One Official Trailer

June 09, 2011 3 Comments

It might be a surprise to post this trailer in here but I felt that this one deserves its own space on my blog!
I love Twilight, ever since I saw the first movie and then I read all the books. Although, I was disappointed that Stephenie Meyer did not continue on writing Twilight from Edward Cullen's point of view, I still loved it.

And I also love Robsten! I know some might not agree with me but I don't really care. For me, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are the celebrities who gives a lot of passion in their craft. They give it the importance it deserves and they don't try to be perfect in front of the cameras for the sake of fame. And what I love most of all is that they don't sell their relationship or whatever it is they have in front of the cameras just to gain publicity.

I'm really excited to see this movie!
So tell me, what book turned into movie are you excited to see?

Waiting on Wednesday #2

June 08, 2011 6 Comments

This is weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine.
It showcases the upcoming releases that we can't wait to read.

The book I can't wait to read is:

Expected publication:
August 16th 2011
by Walker Books for Young Readers

From Goodreads:

Luis Fuentes is a good boy who doesn't live with the angst that his big brothers, Alex and Carlos, have always lived with. Luis is smart, funny, and has big dreams of becoming an astronaut. But when he falls for the wrong girl, Luis enters a dark world he's never known, and just when he thinks he's got life all figured out, learns some disturbing news about his family that destroys his positive outlook on life. Will that Fuentes bad boy streak come out with a vengeance and lure Luis to live on the edge like his new girlfriend and his own father?
Continuing all the steamy romance of the first two books, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Simone Elkeles gives fans one more satisfying taste of the irresistible Fuentes boys.

I am absolutely excited to read this third book of the Fuentes brothers from Simone Elkeles. I loved the first two books. If you've read my review on the first book of this series 'Perfect Chemistry' you'd know that I'm in awe of the way Simone Elkeles wrote  it.  As I've written in that post, I almost gave up in finding a YA book I would love, but Simone Elkeles proved to me that there are still YA books that are worthy to be read.

So what do you think about this book? Any reaction? What book are you so excited to read that you'd wish the days would pass by quickly? Share your thoughts on the comment section. I would love to hear from you.

Forever Family Friday (3)

Family Forever Friday

This a new MEME that is started by E&K Family Book Review
This new Meme will give the book bloggers a chance to get to know each other. It is called 'Forever Family Friday'. Each week KW will post a question for us to answer and through this we'll get to know a little bit of  each other.

The question of the week is:

What was the book that sparked your love of reading? How old were you?

My Answer:

I know my answer might be cheesy to some but the first book I've ever read was Peter Pan. I was still in elementary back then, maybe 9 years old. But the book that sparked my love for reading was 'The Magic of the Glits' by C.S. Adler. I loved that book! After reading Peter Pan, I went to the library and search the old dusty books in there and I found that little treasure. I'll never forget that book. It touched my young and innocent heart.

After that, I just loved reading books. I felt like I can't live without it!

How about you? Want to share the first book that sparked your love for reading? You can share it down there at the comment section or you can post this meme on your own blog.
