Always You Book Cover

Title: ALWAYS YOU

Author: Roxie Noir

Genre: Contemporary Romance

I’ve been broken since the day I was born, with a past full of ugly secrets and a brother doing life in prison.   Not that you’d know it if you read the tabloids. According to them I’m the rock-solid guitarist for the biggest band in the world. I’m the dependable one. The steady one. The anchor.   They don’t know the truth. No one knows who I am underneath, once the music is over and the lights are off.   No one but Darcy.   She’s my best friend. She’s my fucking savior, my light in the dark, beautiful as hell and talented as fuck and every bit as broken as me.   And I fucking yearn for her. I have for years. I see the way she looks at me, what’s behind her eyes.   I know what she thinks about alone, in the dark, because how could I not know.   It’s getting worse. Every second, every heartbeat, every moment we spend together and every secret we share makes me want her more. Even though I know that one kiss, one night could ruin everything we have, I need her.   And for Darcy, I’ll risk it all.

Exclusive Excerpt:

If there’s a heaven, it probably feels a little like this, playing in perfect time with three other people while thousands more cheer for you. Suddenly everything that we went through to get here is worth it: ironing out a guitar and bass licks in the studio at three in the morning, heading home as the sun rose. Arguing over a chord progression for three hours, practicing the tricky parts until I got blisters. We end the first song and slide into the second without even stopping for a beat, just like we practiced. Darcy’s bass swoops low and then rises, the only sound for a couple of bars, and I look over at her. She’s fucking mesmerizing. Every single fucking time, all eyes on her for these few bars, and even though I know she doesn’t like being the center of attention it’s glorious when she is. The curve of her neck and she tosses her dark hair back, the line of her shoulders in her dress, her fingers on the bass. And her legs in that short dress, covered in ripped fishnets, wearing boots. Jesus Christ, man. One hundred percent pure rock chick, loud and careless and brash and don’t-give-a-fuck as hell. I’m gonna be honest: Darcy’s crazy hot all the time, but right now is when she’s the hottest. Right now’s the time when I wonder again what would happen if I finally stopped pretending that I don’t want her and just fucking did something about it. But then I join back into the song and the wild, nearly-uncontrollable urge fades back to its normal level, always there but under control. As I do she glances over at me, a little smile on her face like we’ve got some kind of secret, just the two of us, even across the space and the noise of the stage. I smile back because we do. We’ve got lots of secrets. Darcy knows things about me that no one else does, and vice-versa. We finish that song, and the momentum only builds. The crowd gets louder, stompier, and we move again into the third song without stopping. This one’s slower, not exactly a ballad but as hard as the first two. I’m already sweating under the stage lights, playing a little slower, a little softer. It’s a lull, a respite, a brief meditation from the madness. I let the air buzz around me and find this quiet place, my hands on autopilot for a moment. And then there’s a bang. It’s loud as hell, behind us and way overhead where there shouldn’t be a bang and I flinch, then whirl around wonderin what the fuck that was. Then there’s a second bang, the fizzle and flash of a lone firework. I keep playing on autopilot, but my stomach turns uneasily because Dirtshine doesn’t have fireworks. There shouldn’t be fucking unannounced pyrotechnics, I think, glancing toward the side of the stage. Is that left over from the band before us, or did someone fucking forget to tell— The bass line cuts out in a jumble. I jerk my head over. She’s on fire.
Always You

Blog Tour: Book Excerpt and Giveaway: His Perfect Game by Jenn Langston

December 18, 2013 3 Comments
His Perfect Game

Hello everyone! Krishna here. Christmas is coming up, are you guys excited? I hope you are because this will fun-filled Christmas! Anyways, today Journey with Books is featuring a historical romance titled His Perfect Game by the author Jenn Langston. You guys will know a bit about this book and there's a giveaway for all of you down below. Don't miss it!

His Perfect Game

Book Blurb:

Greyson Thorpe, Viscount Merrick, wants respectability above all else. Knowing the fastest way to achieve that state comes through marriage, he challenges Hammond Everett, the Duke of Donetic to a card game. After winning the match, the duke agrees to exchange his daughter’s hand in marriage for the forgiveness of his debts.

Willimena Abigail Everett had no desire to marry after experiencing the violent nature of men at her father’s hand. When Viscount Merrick arrives, she has no choice other than to obey her father and marry him. Will she be able to set aside her previous beliefs about men and judge her husband by his own merits?

After obtaining good social standing, Greyson sends his bride to the country; however, he finds himself missing her. Following her to the estate, he discovers she had been living a double life. Will he discover her secrets and control his burning desire for her at the same time?

Book Excerpt:

“The weather is quite gloomy,” Lord Merrick commented.

Abigail nodded. His generic observation would have been humorous had she not been so nervous about what she had to do. “This situation is unorthodox, is it not?”

“Yes.” His eyes met hers and captured her attention.

Never in her life had someone been so focused on her. She was seen by many, but noticed by none. His awareness of her brought out a longing she thought she’d left in the past. She wanted to be her own person, someone worthy of being noticed, not an ornament her father brought out and displayed.

Her indecision fled with her nerves. Powered by her newfound desire, she stood and watched as he did so as well. As she took the three short steps toward him, he kept his emotionless expression fixed upon her. Before she lost her boldness, she placed her hands on his chest and pressed her lips against his.

The kiss only lasted a second before he reeled back, but Abigail could still feel the warmth of his mouth. The experience proved more pleasant than she expected. Her eyes fell to his soft lips, and she realized she wanted to kiss him again.

“What are you doing?”

“T-trying to entice y-you,” she stuttered. Her gaze moved away from his mouth, but her thoughts had not.

Book Excerpt:

I shouldn’t still be here.
The sisters find jobs for everyone before their eighteenth birthdays, but mine came and went, unnoticed, two weeks ago.
I blew hot breath on my hands and crunched across the frost-covered ground. Chickens clucked and pecked at my heels until I filled all the feeding troughs. There was no point in pestering the sisters about why they’d forgotten me. They would just find even worse punishments for me. I would have to leave and find work on my own. I couldn’t bear spending the rest of my life doing mundane chores around St. Stephen’s Orphanage.
I picked the eggs out of the laying baskets, wiped them clean, and then placed them in the bucket. Twenty-three eggs today. At least Cook would be pleased.
In the last basket, instead of an egg, a lump of brown fur nestled amongst the hay. I groaned so loud the noise would have scared a healthy rabbit away. I lowered the egg bucket and leaned forward. My breath formed a cloud of white air that hung over the limp body.
I carefully lifted the rabbit from the prickly straw bed, but it sagged glassy-eyed and dead in my hand. I stroked its silky fur and whispered to the cold body. Butterflies squirmed in my stomach, and an army of tiny feet danced across my skin. I rubbed my finger gently where I thought the rabbit’s heart might be. It felt right, like I had to do it.
A heavy weight pushed against my chest. What was happening to me? I forced myself to focus, but the effort drained me. I sank to my knees and sagged against the bowed shelf.
The rabbit twitched and seemed to whisper back to me. I jerked up straight. Its eyes flicked open and looked right into mine, and its back feet kicked into my wrist as it squirmed to get free. I eased back onto my heels and sucked deep breaths into tight lungs.
“Judy!” Sister Margaret hurried across the shed. “What are you doing? Are you hurt?”
I couldn’t let her catch me again. This happened once before, a month ago when a dead otter wriggled off my lap right in front of Sister Beatrice. I’d ended up locked in the library for the rest of the day and overnight.
I let the rabbit go. It darted under a pile of hay and, I hoped, out through the hole at the bottom of the shed.
I scrambled to my feet and grabbed the bucket. “No, Sister, I’m fine.”
“Then why are you dilly dallying? You’ll be late for the guest speaker. Give me that.” She snatched the bucket from my hand. “No time for breakfast. Go directly to the hall.”
I raced along the tiled colonnade, trying to tuck bits of stray hair into my ponytail as I ran. With a bit of luck I wouldn’t be the last one to clatter into the hall. I turned the corner and reeled back.

Blog Tour: Author Guest Post, Book Review and $25 Giveaway: The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron

The Viscount's Vow Banner

Hi everyone! Welcome to The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron's blog tour stop here at Journey with Books. We asked Ms Collette Cameron to do a Guest Post for us and luckily she agreed. So I want to thank Ms. Collette Cameron for taking the time to write a Guest Post.

There will be a giveaway for all of you! All you have to do is take the time to read this post and give your comments down below.

Ten Must Haves When Writing

Ten things? Only ten?

Let me preface this post with a disclaimer. These are things I think are important. You might not. Though how anybody writes without a beverage of choice nearby, is beyond me. But, to each his own.  By-the-way, that was not the first thing.

From personal experience, because I didn't have them with my first book, critique partners and beta readers are fundamental for every writer at every stage of your writing. I’m convinced I’d have had much less rewriting with my first novel had I had critique partners.

A writing schedule is important too. How many hours a day or days a week can you commit to writing?

And, do you make sure to get that word count in before tootling over to Facebook or Twitter, which brings up my fourth thing; a time limit for marketing and social  media. Both will suck you dry, and what you really want to be doing is writing.

Though Pinterest is so much fun...

Okay, let’s switch to practical for a few minutes. A good chair. I’m only saying that because I've been sitting too long today and my tushy is getting sore. I know some of you write curled up on the couch or in an armchair or on the floor, but this gal needs her desk and computer which means an office chair. Oops, just slipped in a couple more and you didn't even notice.
Sly, huh? *Wink*

In my case, I need good blinds I can close because my writing desk is right in front of a window.  I have a fabulous view of my backyard, and I love watching the bird visiting my feeders, but the window faces west which means afternoon sun. And...my neighbor parades around naked in front of his upstairs windows all hours of the day.  Let’s just say, he does not inspire me to write romance, so, whoosh down goes the blind.
What am I up to? Seven?

I need sticky notes. At any given time, there are several plastered on the edges of my computer screen— I only have eight up right now. That’s a slow day for me. I jot notes to myself constantly while writing. I have my writing Bible, character questionnaires and several references books within arm’s reach too. My favorite is The 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue.

Shoot, I just went over the allotted ten.  Well, I’ll count critique partners and beta readers as one, so I’m good.  Just out of curiosity, what can’t you write without?

The Viscount's Vow

Book Blurb:

Amidst murder and betrayal, destiny and hearts collide when scandal forces a nobleman and a  gypsy to marry in this Regency Romance.

Half Romani, half English noblewoman, Evangeline Caruthers is the last woman in England Ian Hamilton, the Viscount Warrick, could ever love—an immoral wanton responsible for his brother’s and father’s deaths. She thinks he’s a foul-tempered blackguard, who after setting out to cause her downfall, finds himself forced to marry her—snared in the trap of his own making.

When Vangie learns the marriage ceremony itself may have been a ruse, she flees to her gypsy relatives, declaring herself divorced from Ian under Romani law. He pursues her to the gypsy encampment, and when the handsome gypsy king offers to take Ian’s place in Vangie’s bed, jealousy stirs hot and dangerous.

At last, under a balmy starlit sky, Ian and Vangie breech the chasm separating them. Peril lurks though. Ian’s the last in his line, and his stepmother intends to dispose of the newlyweds so her daughter can inherit his estate. Only by trusting each other can they overcome scandal and murderous betrayal.

Book Excerpt:

Wedding Reception Scene

“You didn't eat much, wife.”

They were alone on the dance floor. Ian deftly twirled Vangie around his aunt's smallish ballroom, mindful of the interested eyes watching them.

Stealing a glance at the smiling and nodding onlookers, he suppressed a frown. He felt like a curiosity on display at Bullock's Museum. He wished others would take to the floor, so he could dispense with the devoted bridegroom facade.

The twelve courses at dinner had been tortuous. His wife hadn’t taken more than a dozen bites nor said as many words. He'd tried to eat the succulent foods Aunt Edith had gone to such efforts to have prepared, but his anger made everything dry as chalk and every bit as tasteless.

“I'd not much appetite, my lord.”

He chuckled. “Don't you think you might address me by my given name, wife?”

“Why?” she asked pertly. “I've known you but four days, certainly not long enough to be so familiar with you.”

He lowered his head, breathing in her ear, very aware every eye in the room was trained on them. He'd give them something to gossip about. “Because I want you to, wife, and you did promise to obey.”

He nipped her ear.

She jumped and a tiny yelp of surprise escaped before she clamped her lips together. Her eyes were shooting sparks again, only this time they were directed at him.

“What's my name, wife?”

“Please, don't call me that. I too have a name, as you well know.”

Drawing her closer, her breasts pressing against the breadth of his chest and cresting the edge of her bodice, he murmured, “Indeed, but Evangeline sounds . . . angelic, and we both know you're no such thing.”

“Pardon?” She stiffened, trying to shove away from him. “I don't under—”

His head descended again. “Say it, or I'll trace your ear with my tongue.”

He grinned as her breath hissed from between clenched teeth. She stumbled, her fingers digging into his shoulder and hand. A very becoming flush swept across her face.

“Will you cease?” Her worried gaze careened around the room. “We're being watched.”

Voice husky, he said, “Say my name, sweeting.” Giving her a gentle squeeze, he started to dip his head, caressing her elegant neck with his hot breath.

“Ian, your name is Ian,” she gasped breathlessly, twisting her head away.

Krishna's Thoughts
The Viscount's Vow is the first book of Ms. Collette Cameron that I have ever read. I haven't read her other books but I must say that I was really entertained and I enjoyed the time I spent reading this wonderful romance.

So for starters, I would have to say that I loved the book cover. It was simple but it does its job and that was to pick my interest as a reader.

The plot of this book was simple really, it was not the first book I've read that has this kind of theme which is the I'm-here-for-revenge-but-we're-forced-to-get-married-because-we're-caught-in-a-compromising-situation. But what I greatly appreciated was how well written it is. I loved the fact that Ms. Collette Cameron owned it. That was all I really ask on my reads really. I think originality-wise, books were bound to repeat plots or themes from time to time especially in historical romance genre but owning it, putting your own twist and touch thus making it original and new and making your readers really enjoy and fall in love with it was something only great authors do and I really think Ms. Collette Cameron was one of those great author.

I fell in love with the characters. I think if you've read it, falling in love with them was inevitable. I enjoyed Vangie and Ian's journey to falling in love and how they overcame everything that came their way. Vangie was simply charming. Her innocence and her strength was admirable. Ian was a dark character first. He was brooding and short-tempered but it was understandable because he was full of rage because he though Vangie the reason his brother and father died.

The romance was really good. I felt their love for each and I was rooting for them all through out the book. Ian and Vangie's chemistry is sensually hot. I enjoyed their conversations and interactions.

The flow of the story was good too. It was nice and easy. It wasn't hurried. I think it was smooth and just right.

Verdict:

I loved The Viscount's Vow and I recommend this book to all the readers who loves their Historical Romance with a bit of angst and a lovely heart-felt sexy and sensual romance from two adorable characters. Ms. Collette Cameron is definitely on my list of authors to watch out for!

Book Excerpt:

July 2, 2013

Life can change in the blink of an eye. This blink came when a cop car cruised up The Seacrest’s white shell driveway on a hot Saturday in July.

I’ll never forget the moment. You know how folks remember where they were when John Lennon died? Or when President Kennedy was assassinated? It was like that, every detail stamped into my brain, forever.

A fresh breeze laden with the scent of the sea rustled blue flowers in a nearby hydrangea hedge. Hot and sweaty, I stood in the blazing sun, feeling like a fool. I’d just finished weed wacking around the paddock fence posts. Unfortunately, said weed wacker had spooked Libby Vanderhorn’s favorite mare, Serendipity, who I secretly called Dippy, because she was such a loose cannon. She’d bucked three times and knocking down several fence boards. Libby was a good rider, but this time she’d landed in a sprawling heap on the soft dirt, swearing at me.

The boss’s gorgeous, stuck-up daughter didn’t mince words, and the sting of her accusations still sounded in my head. How stupid can you be, Finn? What’s wrong with you?

Libby’s father held great power on Cape Cod. Rudolph Vanderhorn sat on so many boards, I’d lost count. His father’s fish canning company made a fortune back in the eighties, and he and his daughter had enjoyed the spoils ever since.

I stooped to pick up a hammer from my toolbox, planning to reattach the fence boards before any of Libby’s horses got hurt on the protruding nails. Curious now, I watched the Brewster Police car circle the long drive, heading toward the mansion. The local authorities stopped by every few days to discuss town matters with my boss. But today the blue light was flashing, which didn’t look like a casual visit.

A shudder went through me, and I turned cold. Something bad had happened. I sensed it.

Two years ago, Mia had everything she thought she wanted. She loved her job, and her best friend Nicole was finally recovering from losing her family in a car accident. Book Excerpt:

“You have a massage in one hour,” I remind her with a raised eyebrow. Her eyes slowly open and the smoky color in her blue eyes clears.

“Wha….”

I chuckle softly. It takes every ounce of self-control not to take her. How can one kiss turn both
of so completely inside out like this?

“A massage. In one hour.” And then I smirk. “Unless you want me to take care of it for you.” I run my hands slowly down her throat, across her collar bone, and down her sides until I reach the edge of her short t-shirt that I want removed. Immediately. I play with the hem with my fingers and firmly grasp her thighs, squeezing the backs of them until my hands are cupping her perfect ass.

She jumps when I pinch each ass cheek, pushing me away. I throw my hands up innocently as she laughs just once. It’s the first smile I’ve gotten out of her since we stepped out of the plane. It’s progress and I’ll take it.

“You’re a tool.”

I place both hands on my hips, my feet shoulder-width apart, and watch her eyes fall to my erection that’s pressed so hard against my boxers I’m surprised it hasn't popped out yet. When she’s looking, I wiggle my hips once. “We both know you like my tool.”

Her cheeks flush bright pink and she turns away, but she’s still smiling and laughing so I consider my work done for the morning.

Blog Tour: Excerpt and Giveaway: Out From Under by Selene Chardou

October 24, 2013 1 Comments
OutfromUnder (2)

Hi everyone! Journey with Books is featuring Out From Under by the author Selene Chardou. You will get a little glimpse on what's inside this book. And there's a giveaway fro you guys on the bottom of this post. Don't miss it!

Book Blurb:

"I have always been strong, independent and wanted a life that belonged to me. It's the very reason why I chose to attend Stanford because it is away from the small-town life that seems more Twin Peaks than charming. Secrets are a dangerous commodity and Pine Bluff has them in spades. So do my parents, and the dirtiest secret of all is my brother, Trey. Sergeant at Arms for the Demon's Bastards, a criminal, a felon, and perhaps the catalyst for the tragedy that destroyed my life just days before I was supposed to leave for college.

"Now I am on the run because my life is in danger and I could be next. I don't want to live my whole life looking over my shoulder and I don't want to live my life shrouded in despair. Anxiety has me in a death grip, unable to let go. I pop Xanax to get through the day and were it not for my famous cousin, I would probably be dead already.

"My name is Trista Lennon, and I am tired of being afraid."

Linx Carter never thought he could help anyone when he could barely help himself. He is hanging on by a thread after a tough, six-month Gods of Rock Tour with his band, Winter's Regret, and Scarlet Fever. He has a greedy ex-wife, two sons and all he wants is to put the pieces of his life back together.

Linx knows there is something special about Trista from the moment they meet. She's wounded, in desperate need of a friend yet feminine, feisty and no one's charity case. She is the strongest woman he has ever known.

Through their friendship, they will find the strength to heal themselves and love one another but a feud between two gangs is brewing. Trista is caught in the crossfire, and by proxy, so is Linx. What they discover might not only cost them the love they have for one another but their lives too.

Book Excerpt:

The motorcycle clubs, and the violence they brought with them, was the major reason why I wanted to leave this place. I couldn't take the biker gangs and the casinos, the whores and the drug trade any longer. I was sick of it and how our whole lives were affected by it. My parents owned their own accounting firm, but it was mostly a front to do the books for the Lucifer’s Saints MC and every illegitimate businessman come tax time.

Like most men, my father was a contradiction. He didn't want his children to be involved in a life of crime though he and my mother were neck deep in it. I suppose it made me feel slightly better they’d been bullied into their position as accountants mainly for a biker gang but they also had to take some of the blame. We could have moved to another town, another state but perhaps they were just as greed-driven as the average adult and could only see working for the MC as an end game toward early retirement.

We lived comfortably but I couldn't disguise my quiet disgust at how our lifestyle came at the cost of lives lost, ruined and destroyed. They dealt with unsavory people and washing dirty money clean didn't make me feel any better, no matter how comfortable my life was as a result of my parents’ profession.

Of course, I was a walking cliché myself. I had secretly been the girlfriend of an MC prospect for over a year, Tristan dated a woman with direct ties to a rival MC and Trey was in the MC. I needed to get away because I didn't want this kind of life. I certainly didn't want to bring children into this kind of environment, no matter how charming Pine Bluff and its proximity to Lake Tahoe were. Underneath the town lurked a rot and filth that marred our beautiful surroundings and vaguely reminded me of the show, Twin Peaks. Like that idyllic town, nothing was as it seemed and it was the same for the nearby towns of Birch Tree, where the Saints ruled, and Black Oak, the town where the Knights had placed their claim.

“Earth to Trista, how are you and what are you doing here?”

I turned towards Tristan’s voice before I smiled and walked over to embrace him and Taryn.
“I’m great, although to be honest, I can’t wait to get out of this po-dunk town,” I said, before I sipped from my drink.

Tristan glared at me with harsh sky-blue eyes. “What’s that? Coke? You better not be drinkin’. Mom and Dad would have my ass if they found out their perfect daughter was caught at a Bastards’ party with this many drunk and fucked up people running around. What they hell is wrong with you? If anyone can understand how out of control these events can become, it’s you.”

“Well,” I said as I placed my hands on my hips. “If you have any ideas on how I am supposed to spend my New Year’s Eve, especially in our little hole in the wall town, I’m all ears,” I replied in a sarcastic voice.
“Maybe you should spend some time at home for a change. Take Clooney with you—he’ll make sure you get home safe and sound.”

I laughed out loud. “That can’t happen. Trey would go postal if he knew I was alone with Clooney. He told me I had to leave with you two when you decide to go home or he would have another prospect drop me off. He’s demanded I cut any and all ties to the MC before I leave for Stanford.”

“He’s right, you know,” Taryn replied in her soft, barely-there Northern Irish accent. “You've been surrounded by this whole sordid scene since you were a wee child and it’s not healthy. I was so happy to get the hell out of Belfast, I didn't know what to do. Of course, I miss me Ma but do you know what it’s like to attend high school and university in a normal environment? No bombs exploding and not having to worry about being a Catholic?”

She paused and wrapped her arms around Tristan’s waist. “That’s why I love your brother so much. He loves me for me and it doesn't hurt that he’s one of the most fit men I have ever met.”

My brother looked at her before he kissed her lips softly. “I love you too, babe.”

I smiled at both of them before I pursed my lips and left the clubhouse. I sat outside on a wooden bench and watched a few revelers in more than close-for-comfort positions while I drank my SoCo and Coke.
The sheer need to leave this place had become an all-consuming obsession and I couldn't wait for the New Year. As far as I was concerned, it couldn't come fast enough.

Book Blast and Giveaway: Alpha Goddess by Amalie Howard

September 24, 2013 0 Comments

Hardcover, 400 pages
Expected publication: March 4th 2014 by Sky Pony Press

In Serjana Caelum’s world, gods exist. So do goddesses. Sera knows this because she is one of them. A secret long concealed by her parents, Sera is Lakshmi reborn, the human avatar of an immortal Indian goddess rumored to control all the planes of existence. Marked by the sigils of both heaven and hell, Sera’s avatar is meant to bring balance to the mortal world, but all she creates is chaos. A chaos that Azrath, the Asura Lord of Death, hopes to use to unleash hell on earth.

Torn between reconciling her past and present, Sera must figure out how to stop Azrath before the Mortal Realm is destroyed. But trust doesn’t come easy in a world fissured by lies and betrayal. Her best friend Kyle is hiding his own dark secrets, and her mysterious new neighbor, Devendra, seems to know a lot more than he’s telling. Struggling between her opposing halves and her attraction to the boys tied to each of them, Sera must become the goddess she was meant to be, or risk failing, which means sacrificing the world she was born to protect.

"Dev grasped her hand and drew it over to him, running his thumb over the mark on her left palm. Sera felt her cheeks redden at his gentle touch. Something electric unfolded inside of her, and her vision tunneled into a memory. This time it was different, though, full of light instead of darkness.

A flutter of firelight from the magical little clay pots lit all around them . . . the discordant aching sounds of a sitar strumming in the background. It was a glorious display, a triumph of good over evil in celebration of their love. His kiss was light upon her cheek, his touch a gossamer caress. She spun in a slow circle, the light on her beloved’s face glowing from within him. She laughed because she was glowing, too."
