Book Blurb:

In the closing weeks of law school, Shannon Sutherland meets handsome and charming Englishman Will MacKenzie. Initially swept off her feet, Shannon finds that Will has a secret that, once discovered and the consequences realized, could destroy their fledgling relationship. Will and Shannon take great pains to have a normal relationship but, ultimately, find it impossible to do so. Will the pressures of their careers and the temptations of others drive Will and Shannon apart? Can Will and Shannon live a happy life away from the spotlight?

Tamara Carlisle takes you on a romantic ride that explores the consequences of fame and a love that endures all.

My Thoughts:

Away from the Spotlight is the first work of Ms. Tamara Carlisle I've read. It's a sweet romance with an unexpected twist at the end.
Now, it's up to the reader if it's something you'd like or it's something you won't. One I'm sure of is that it's something that will surely shock you.

The plot started out nicely. It's about two people who are extremely different yet in some ways, they're also extremely alike. Will and Shannon met in an ordinary bar on an ordinary night and there they started their very sweet romance.

The whole book was written in Shannon's narrative point of view and sometimes it's difficult to feel the other character's emotions in situations because of it but other than that I think it was written well.

The characters are interesting. They are not perfect and that makes them seem more real. I also like the other characters beside Will and Shannon. I liked the friendship they surrounded themselves in. It's fascinating and it makes me wish that I could have the friendships in it.

The only complain I have for this book is how in some situations that happened in this book lacks details. Some happenings were cut short and  were not described properly, other than that I still enjoyed reading this book.

I recommend this book to those readers who loves reading a sweet tale of romance with a surprising ending!

Book Excerpt:

I promise nothing will separate us again. Just like it said in our vows, ‘Til death do us part.’”

Well, about fifty percent of all marriages are ‘til divorce do us part.’”

We’ll be in the other fifty percent.”

How do you know?” I was still worried.

Because I love you and I am not stupid enough to make the same mistake twice. Unless you have any plans to break us up?”

No. I wasn’t worried about me. I was worried about you.”

We’re good then?”

Yes, I guess so.” I could hear a little sigh of relief on the other end of the phone. “Other than Saturday, have you ever noticed how we have a lot of these kinds of conversations over the phone or out in public?”

Yes.”

I wonder why that is.”

Because when we’re alone together, we can’t keep our hands off each other,” Will said in a sexy voice.

I guess that’s true. Do you think we’ll ever be able to have them when we’re alone together?”

If you mean, ‘do I think that we’ll be able to keep our hands off each other at some point,’ I certainly hope not. But I do think we might be able to figure out how to multitask.

  3. Good morning and thank you for hosting me today and for your wonderful review! Thank you, Mary, for joining us here today. I hope you like my surprise ending - it is a HEA though. The only actor I can recall really dying over was Daniel Day-Lewis in "Last of the Mohicans." Wow! He appears to be a very intelligent man as well so I imagine there would be a lot to talk about with him. If I could be with a fictional famous boyfriend, it would have to be Will MacKenzie.

  5. Thank you, Karen, for joining us here! I hope you'll enjoy reading outside your normal genre. I used to read almost exclusively the Robert Ludlum, Jack Higgins, Frederick Fortsyth kind of books. Now, I read all sorts of books. I find that I really enjoy romance as much as other genres. I hope you will too. Thank you again to Lady Krishna Asi for hosting me here today and reviewing my book. I look forward to continuing to follow your blog.

  6. The book sounds pretty good to me!
Hm, a famous boyfriend, I think Jensen Ackles and since we go for the fictional I would spend the day in Rom, visiting old ruins and in the evening go to the opera. :)

  7. Hi, Gala! Thanks for stopping by and visiting! Jensen Ackles and Rome sounds good to me! My choice would be Daniel Day-Lewis circa "Last of the Mohicans" and London (or Will MacKenzie from "Away from the Spotlight" or Niall Robertson of the upcoming "The Call of the Limelight").
