Book Blurb:
It’s two weeks before Triss turns 18, and her world is about to change into the most magical one imaginable as she readies herself to enter The Witch Avenue Order... that is until her mother’s disappearance. Instead of celebrating her transformation, she finds herself spreading rose petals into her mother’s empty grave.

When Logan, her best friend from junior high, moves back to town for college, he vows to help her find the answers she so desperately seeks surrounding her mother’s disappearance. As they begin uncovering clues, it becomes apparent that the life of white magic they both grew up loving is not what the majority practices, and their lives are in danger.

With a haunting feeling that her mother may still be alive, she begins to hear a call to the wilderness. Triss realizes that in order to find the answers she needs, she must learn the ways of her ancestors and become the hunter, not the hunted before it’s too late, and she becomes part of the lonely souls.

My Thoughts:
As I said on my intro up there, Lonely Souls is the first book of Witch Avenue Series by Ms. Karice Bolton. This isn't the first book I've read from Ms. Karice Bolton but I must say that I enjoyed this book more than I did the last one. I believe that she has improved as a writer and it's really fascinating to see.

For this book review I decided to make a bullet list of what I liked and what I didn't.

What I Liked:
  • What attracted me to read this book on the first place is its amazing book cover. You must admit that it practically screams "Read Me". I do appreciate good book covers and this one definitely made the list. I also appreciate and loved the fact that the beautiful dress that the girl wears on the cover is significant to the real story.
  • The characters are really nicely played out in this book. Triss is somewhat frustrating at first but you kind of sympathize with what she's going through. You could feel her grief, disbelief and confusion. And Logan is my favorite character in this book. He's steady. He understands Triss and he prioritizes her feelings and safety before anything else. He's willing to wait for her to return his feelings.
  • The romance is also nice. The chemistry is there. Although, at first, it's hard to feel but on the latter part of the book the romance was full blown and it's really nice.
  • The plot of the book is also good.  The mystery can be felt. There are also moments when you would definitely be spooked!

What I didn't Like:
  • Sadly the pacing of the story is somewhat off. At times, the story can't maintain it's momentum. The highest and then the lowest. I can't keep up with it. When the story begins picking up and the excitement is already there, it suddenly slows down and it loses its momentum.
  • Some scenes are rather insignificant. There were a few little scenes that were a bit long and it drags. I felt that the book could have been better without those scenes.
Overall, despite those little glitches, I still enjoyed reading Lonely Souls (The Witch Avenue Series Book 1). It still belongs to my good reads list! Karice Bolton wrote a very nice paranormal romance book with good looking witches with their powerful and dangerous wands. If you want a good paranormal romance that can make you feel the mystery, romance and can spook the hell out of you while reading it, then I recommend that you try this book because this is definitely for you.

On a whim, Ana goes out with Athen, a guy she’s just met in the Grizzly Pub... The only problem is that she feels like she already knows him.

Within 48 hours of meeting Athen and his family, Ana’s world implodes. She falls for Athen quickly and before she knows it, a past life begins to resurface. As thrilling as the revelations appear at first, she fights against the chilling information that Athen is from the underworld. Soon she begins to struggle as her own supernatural gifts are slowly unveiled, and she realizes that the nightmares she’s been having might be premonitions and not dreams at all.

It is up to Ana to decipher between fact and fiction before it is too late, and her new love, Athen, follows in her same fate - one that is lost between two worlds.

Realizing that Ana’s visions alone are not enough to protect them, her family begins her training immediately before she is targeted once more. The Legions will not quit until they get what they want, and they have made it clear that mortals will not be spared, leaving Ana little time to figure out what it is the demons are after.

As Ana balances her time between chasing after her destiny and spending her time relearning how to fight demons, she learns something about her past that could change why she’s fighting for anything at all. Clues continue to unfold in the form of yellowed letters she finds from Athen buried within an old Tudor home; and her future is signaled in a lone, white rose left for only her to see giving her the strength to persevere. She is determined to not give up faith that she will have it all once more.
